TED and inequality: The real story

Hey TEDx’ers!

The following message was shared by TED on May 18, 2012 with all TEDx Organizers around the world.

You may have heard about the firestorm around Nick Hanauer’s talk at TED U at TED 2012 and we wanted to provide you with some information.

We have many reasons for not posting this Talk. As TED curator Chris Anderson said on his blog post on the topic, “Our policy is to post only talks that are truly special. And we try to steer clear of talks that are bound to descend into the same dismal partisan head-butting people can find every day elsewhere in the media.”

You can read his full response and view Nick Hanauer’s video here.

If you would like to check out some of TED’s content on income disparity, or share it with your community, Richard Wilkinson’s TEDTalk “How income inequality harms societies” is a great place to start.

He also does an insightful interview for our TED Blog.

You can find more talks on economic injustice in this TED Blog playlist

If you are not aware of the back story this is the original article from the National Journal and an article by the Huffington Post is helpful with more of the backstory.

I am pleased that I am not Chris Anderson as he tries to curate the TED content. A tough job.
