What is the difference between a TEDxManhattanBeach Social and a Conference?
At a Social we watch and discuss pre-recorded TED Talks. At a conference we watch and discuss a mix of live speakers and TED Talks.
How do I register to attend a TEDxManhattanBeach Social?
To attend a Social click on the future events and purchase a ticket. We sell the tickets on a first-come-first-served basis.
How do I register to attend a TEDxManhattanBeach Conference?
To apply for a conference fill out the application form on our conference registration page. Please be thorough as we want to get to know you! You will be put on our list of people who are interested in attending the event.
Once I register for a conference does that mean I am automatically accepted and how do I purchase my ticket?
No. Registration and buying a ticket is a two-step process. The registration form is the first required step. Once we’ve processed your application, you will receive an invitation to the email address you specified with the link to the final page where you can purchase your ticket to the event.
Why Do You Have A Conference Application Process?
Our venue has limited seating so we do not have room for everyone who wishes to attend. In the past our conferences have sold out quickly so we feel that the best way to ensure an interesting audience is to ask everyone to complete an application. The application is very short and easy to complete.
Am I chosen to attend the conference based upon my application?
Yes. Our goal with TEDxManhattanBeach is to have as diverse group of people as possible. We review all the applications and choose participants to ensure the best possible combination of people. We are looking for a mix of people from all backgrounds. Please demonstrate your passion for ideas and how you have spread them in the past.
Are the TEDxManhattanBeach events free?
We wish that they were. We charge enough to cover our costs and if we make a profit we invest the money into the next event. We typically charge $10 for a social and $100 for a one day conference.
Am I allowed to bring guests?
We have chosen to require each attendee to register separately for TEDxManhattanBeach events. If a social has not sold out you are welcome to bring a friend, but if we have reached the safe capacity of the venue we hope you will understand why we will turn your friend away.
What is the minimum age to attend a TEDxManhattanBeach?
Our events are aimed at adults, but we have found that many high school age students (particularly Juniors and Seniors) really enjoy attending our events. Once a year we host a TEDxYouth event and this is targeted at high school students and they often bring an adult friend.
If I don’t have my ticket with me, though I purchased one, will I be able to get into TEDxManhattanBeach?
Yes. If you have completed all of the necessary ticketing and registration steps, we will have a badge for you and your name will be on the list. Simply show up on time with at least one form of ID, and we will admit you to the event.
What is the reception before and after the event?
The reception is set up to encourage the speakers, attendees and volunteers to network and talk about all things TED.
